Why are there to sets of colors in Korean?
Why are there two sets of colors in Korean, and when should each be used? Please go into detail, because I find this kind of confusing.

I guess what you mean is these pairs:
빨강/ 빨간색
검정/ 검은색
Each pair indicates the same thing, but when you want to put '색'(color) in the expression, you use the right one, and only using the left one makes no change in meaning.
ex)
우체통은 빨간색이다. -> 빨간 우체통/ 빨강 우체통
내 머리카락은 검은색이다. -> 검은 머리카락/ 검정 머리카락
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know but can't explain well..

It's because we also use sino-Korean words(=hanja-eo, 한자어) which were affected by Chinese, hanzi(汉字), and the sino-Korean make up more than 65% of Korean vocabularies. The sino-Korean are often used in written or formal situations.
For example,(as to "red color")
빨강 = native Korean word
적색(赤=red,色=color) = sino-Korean word
빨간(the base form is "빨갛다") + 색(色) = mixed^^/
