In which cases "over" is used?

Over has several meanings: As a preposition (location), it means "above" or "up." [The plane flew over the mountains, across the sky, and into the horizon.] When used with "there," the phrase "over there" means "in the distance." [The ball didn't fall right there in front of us, it's over there across the field.] As a state of being, it means "finished." [The movie was over so we all got up and left the theater.]
