1. 꺼져가는 - what is the "-다 "dictionary form of this word? * 꺼져 가다: 꺼지다 + 가다, fade away, die down 2. 그렇게도 - does it mean "so much" ? If " 그렇게 = so/it's this way so... " and "도 = also", then I don't understand at all ^^; * “도” means ‘also, too’. But in this case, it means ‘even, by that much’. When you say “빨리도 왔네!”, it means “How fast you are!” You wondered at his/her speed. Compare it to “빨리 왔네!” The latter is a little light expression than the former. 3. 떨쳐내려 하다 - it means "to shake off" ? but what does the "쳐" inside do? * 떨치다 shake off + 내다 (an auxiliary verb) = 떨쳐 내다 ‘-내다’ means do all the way (to the very end, thoroughly) and the preceding verb was finished with difficulty. 책을 끝까지 읽어 내다 He managed to finish the book, albeit it was hard for him. 마침내 그 방법을 생각해 냈다 Finally, he came up with a great idea. You would have a feeling of one’s endeavor in ‘생각해 내다’ than in ‘생각하다’. 4. does 아무리... mean "no matter how much..." ? * 일이 아무리 힘들어도 최선을 다하겠다 However hard the work may be, I will do my best. 네가 아무리 노력해도 그를 설득시키지 못한다 You cannot persuade him no matter how hard you try. 5. 못하게 - what is the "-다 "dictionary form of this word? * 못하다 6. 이련이란 - what does it mean? * you mean ‘미련’?: a feeling(a lingering affection) left for something or someone(who was one’s sweetheart) for the past. 7. 새워 - to stay up - what is the "-다 "dictionary form of this word? * (밤을) 새우다 / cf. 세우다 to set up, to erect 8. 그쳐가면 - I saw it when talking about rain (that the rain stopped) - what is the "-다 "dictionary form of this word? * 그치다 stop, hold up + 가다 (become to, come to ) = 그쳐 가다 means ‘is becoming to stop’
