1. Is this kind of programmes that attrack audiences by making moderate fun of others usual? At least our Australian trash radio networks run prank calls on a regular basis. US television had a show called Candid Camera for many years, that played tricks on people. Brazilian TV had a "ghost child" appear in a lift to terrify people. It all goes to show that the media has to be searched for any meaningful content. 2. Do you think it very offensive to the Queen and the royal family? It would be to some people. But there is a lot of the world that suffered because of the British Royal family and the historical actions they condoned. The British were machine gunning crowds in Ireland in the 1920's and Hong Kong in the 1930's and many thousands of people were killed in Kenya in the 1950's. That said about half of Australians still want a monarchy. 3. If the nurse hadn't committed suicide, what would you think of the two hosts? I would still think they weren't worth listening to. In addition, calling a hospital during the night and wasting a nurse's time was a potentially deadly act at the best of times. There should be definite limits to these actions. 4. Anything relating this. A number of things here. First up - the chairman of the radio station board was a very prominent person on one side of our political spectrum. I think that it is curious that at least 3 prominent politicians from the same side have come out and said that the event is trivial and let's move on. Usually that sort of comment is not seen. Our other side of politics has not done the same thing. I know that there are some comments that the suicide was an over reaction. However shame is a huge thing in many non Western cultures and this woman was an Indian. From all reports, this was very good nurse. Putting those two facts together, I can see that she might react like this to a such a mistake on her part. Japanese society is renowed for honour related suicides.

Last night I saw these 2 pranksters on TV. They were crying and very remorseful that their actions led to the nurse's suicide. These 2 emphasized that no one could have ever predicted that their actions wold lead to such tragic events. They said that because they had silly British accents, they did not believe that their call would actually be forwarded to another nurse, who was the one who gave them details about Kate's pregnancy.They told the interviewer that they are hired by the radio station to make prank calls and then the radio executives make a decision as to whether the call goes to air. Personally, I am not in favour of prank calls, even though a lot of Australians accept this sort of thing as part of our culture of being able to laugh at ourselves. It's like people laughing when someone slips on a banana peel. No one ever thinks that it can lead to tragic consequences.

Money, fashion, fame, and having a good time are more important to most people, I guess. 2. Maybe, but who cares? We didn't choose the Queen; the royal family at some point were people that enforced their views onto others; the same old 'might is right' way of thinking. Australians see even less reason to care about the Queen, and we see stupid s**t like the royal wedding and other stuff in our news that we really don't care about (well at least, I certainly don't). 3. The nurse chose to suicide, and what the hosts said seems mostly irrelevant since none of it was malicious. There are a lot of Australian and English pranksters, so this is not some strange exception! For example, we Australians have TV presenters called The Chasers that go around pranking people and they are refreshing because they make fun of the liars and frauds in politics and the media. 4. A culture doesn't grow if people haven't the ability to laugh at it and make fun of it. Sure some people get a bit too sensitive and do silly things because they take life too seriously, but that's it. It looks like she suicided because she had a ridiculously over-inflated view of the Queen's value. That's not something I can empathise with. I don't think the Queen would ever care for my way of thinking, and I definitely wouldn't die for her.

I live in Ireland and to be honest no one here gives a sh*t about events such as the royal wedding and all that nonsense. The media around the world make such a big deal about stories surround ''the royal family'', that a lot of naive people buy into the hype. The royal family have about as much authority as my left shoe, the British just preserve their monarchy in an attempt to be different. It's the exact same reason they won't use the euro.

I don't understand why more scrutiny is not given to the British media's role in the nurses suicide. Sure, the Australian radio show did the original prank, but without the days of British tabloid headlines screaming about how bad it was, it would have been forgotten about 5 minutes after it was put to air. If it was the prank that started her thoughts about suicide, it was the British medias' hysterical reaction that would have tipped her over the edge. Without the British media, she would not have even known about it, and most likely would still be with her family.
