Being nearsighted doesn’t mean that you can lie around in bed reading books, don’t you listen?

我觉得前面应该有个问号表示反问,这样逻辑才顺口 大概意思就是,you are nearsighted? didn't I just tell you not to read books, lying in the bed? did I tell you not to ……

灰太狼的老婆的话大概是这样“不是让你平时别躺在床上看书吗,你就是不听!”(I tell you many times that don't read in bed, but you take no notice!) The sentence means that now you're nearsighted and you should regret it. So we usually using " 不是让你不······吗?/ 不是不让你·······吗?

It's like "Didn't I tell you not to lie around in bed reading books? And you just didn't listen to me!". I think it is a double negative sentense, which is a bit 冗词 maybe, but is pretty common in daily communication :)

If you didn't leave out any Chinese characters of what Huitailang's wife said, some punctuations should be added like this: 近视了不是? "近视了不是?" looks like a question, but actually isn't. It means "It doesn't surprise me that you get nearsighted" The following sentence "让你平时别躺床上看书,你就是不听!" states the reason why she was not surprised. Here's another example of "... It doesn't surprise me that you catch a cold. I told you to put on your coat, but you just wouldn't listen. As you may have seen, "... 不是" implies that the person you are talking to is to blame for something bad that has just happened to himself/herself.
