What do the words 'anata' and 'motte' mean?
For example:
anata wa kiiro no hon o motte imasu.
watashi wa kiiro no hon o motte imasu.
I feel like the first sentence this means 'to give', and the second one indicates 'to have' but I'm not sure.

'anata' means 'you'.
So,
anata wa kiiro no hon "w"o motte imasu.
→You have a yellow book.

It means "to have" or more precisely, to own something.

motte = Original verb is "motsu(持つ)". It means "have" in English :)
