There is a backlog of work on your desk. There is a lot of work to catch up with. I have a lot of work to catch up with. I am behind with my work/work load. Our work is piling up on the desk.

Yes, you can say that some work still remains and needs to be completed. Another word would be undone, as in: the work remains undone. Hope this helps! :-)
