There is a phrase in English - 'cheap and nasty', which unfortunately often applies to Chinese products. Yes, they are usually cheap, but they are also usually of much poorer quality. If the quality doesn't matter - I will often buy the cheaper option. For more expensive items, I will usually go for a non-Chinese brand, even if the product is made in China, because at least then I know I will get a warranty, and reasonable after-sales service. I know a few Chinese brands - such as Haier and Huawei.
