When it rained yesterday, I got wet. ob = abhängige ja-nein-Frage, die unbekannt ist/dependent yes-no-question (English "whether"): Er wusste nicht mehr, ob er nass geworden war oder nicht. He didn't know whether he got wet or not. English "when" can be used in several of these scenarios (and also as interrogative/relative pronoun, German "wann"), so you always have to choose the appropriate translation.
