“《》”这个符号起源于法语，是引号的一种形式，法语叫做“guillemets français doubles”，也就是“双法国引号”，而在英语中就简单地叫“guillemets”。这个符号除了法国和一些拉丁国家外，在俄罗斯和前苏联国家也有使用，所以之前回答的乌克兰人以为这是从俄语引进的。当然事实并非如此。 中文的破折号应当是借自英语，英语中破折号有长短之分，短的叫en dash，长的叫em dash。中文引入的是长dash。
