So I believe the first egg that bore the first version of a chicken came first. That egg was not laid by a modern chicken, so it wasn't technically a chicken egg. And the "chicken" that came out of that not-chicken egg was technically a not-chicken because it was just a mutated descendant of the animal that laid that not-chicken egg. But this process continues for many many years, and the not-chickens kept laying eggs that bore increasingly mutated not-chickens, till we finally got the first almost-chicken egg bearing a modern day chicken.
