Per le persone si usa /inviare/ oppure /mandare/, raramente /spedire/, che ha un significato di forte urgenza e forte autorita`. /mandare/ e` un termine generico, ad esempio: -- ti ho mandato il libro tramite Franco che so che passera` per la tua citta` la settimana prossima, mettiti in contatto con lui, per favore. /spedire/ indica una /spedizione/, cioe` una cosa particolare, fatta tramite un servizio apposito. Esempio: a1) mi hai mandato i quadri ? b1) Si`, te li ho spediti ieri? a2) per posta o per corriere? b2) per corriere ovviamente! Dovrebbero consegnarteli entro due giorni. (a1) : non sa i dettagli e quindi usa /mandare/. (b1) ha usato una /spedizione/ e usa il verbo adatto. Il sinonimo e` questo: spedire = {inviare,mandare} tramite spedizione.

As far as I know, they are synonims. Mandare is used the most in everyday conversation, inviare is more formal, when finishing letters, for example Le invio i miei saluti. It is also used in e-language, sms, e-mails. And spedire - to send, talking about packages, some means of transport has to be involved, used in commerce.
