es listo= he is intelligent
están listos= they are ready
está listo= he is ready

ser listo es igual a decir que alguien "es " inteligente. Son listos= ellos son inteligentes
ESTAR listo es "estar" preparado para algo.
EJEMPLO:
Mis hermanos están listos para irnos al partido de futbol
