In fact, the existence of three alphabet is due to History. In the early days of the japanese culture, the kanji alphabet, based on the chinese ideograms was the only one. But it was forbidden to the women to use it, so they created their own alphabet : the hiragana alphabet. The katakana alphabet have been created by some monks, who needed a simplier alphabet to note what their teachers said. ^^ That's it !
