Macmillan dictionary says that the word is old-fashioned. However, according to Google, it has become quite popular in the last 50 years. Do you use it?

Yes. I use it. I wouldn't call it "quite popular," but I agree that it has become normal U.S. vocabulary in the last several decades. Now that you've discovered it, you should make it part of your passive vocabulary because you might hear it, but there's no need to USE it.

(U.S. again) I asked my wife. She says "I used to use it." She thinks that to some extent it's a regional thing--the thinks it was more common in the Midwest where she grew up than it is where we live now.
