The writer is talking about a factory seen indistinctly through mist. I'm not sure exactly what is meant by a "flume" here--usually it means a sort of open pipe or chute with water flowing in it. At any rate, there are long curving structures. The writer is thinking about artist's paintings of Jurassic scenes, when some kinds of dinosaurs had long curving necks.
