"Chico" can be used meaning "small" in Spain. Actually in my region in Spain this is the main meaning and we prefer other words like "muchacho", "chaval" or "zagal" than "chico". Although I know in the North they use more "Chico" as a noun meaning "muchacho".

The three first definitions in the Real Academia de la Lengua Española dictionary are: 1. adj. pequeño ( que tiene poco tamaño). 2. adj. niño. 3. adj. muchacho.
