impecunious - lacking money - "pecunia" is Latin for "coin" destitute - very poor and lacking not only money but means of support, shelter etc. impoverished - similar to destitute but suggesting that the person has "become" poor for some reason; for example, the drought has impoverished the population of the country. needy - a euphemism often used instead of "poor"
