What does I shouldn't wonder mean in this conversation?
In the Pinocchio, 1940 animated film, Blue Fairy dubs the talking cricket Pinocchio's conscience and changes his ragged cloth into a new one.
The cricket jumps for joy, but soon he hesitates to say something.
He says to the Blue Fairy "Don't I get a badge or something?"
The Blue Fairy. "Well, we'll see."
"You mean maybe I will?" The cricket asks again.
Then the Blue Fairy, "I shouldn't wonder."
The cricket looked satisfied at her answer, and asks, "Make it a gold one?"
"Maybe." she says.
Q. What does she mean by I shouldn't wonder in this conversation?
Does the dialogue sound natural to you? Could you possibly help me understand her line?
