As グロリアsan has explained, わかりますか？ is more of "do/can you understand?" As for "Does it make sense to you?", there are many options for Japanese translation. I would say これで　通（つう）じますか？ or これで　合（あ）っていますか？ ＊通じる = get across, make oneself understood ＊合っている =correct

わかりますか is correct when asking, "Do you understand?" It's the politest way to ask and I will work in this situation.
