The word spiritual refers to a person's spirit or soul. Psychological refers to the mind. Spiritual is used when talking about religion, but can be more broad than one specific religion.

Maggie, it's been a long time since I corresponded with you. I just read the comments on the meaning of "spiritual." Although "religious" is one of the connotations of that word, the primary meaning refers to the spirit , the "vital principle or animating force in living beings,." as opposed to any physical elements. Reference to religion is a secondary meaning. For example, each of us experiences spiritual enjoyment in a different way, some through music, some through creative endeavors, etc. In my younger days I hiked and camped in the Rocky Mountains. Climbing to the top of the Continental Divide with a 20 or 25 kilo pack is not always easy, but the spiritual enjoyment of reaching the top is worth it. It has nothing to do with religion, for I am not a religious person, but rather with a sense of enjoyment, accomplishment, pleasure, satisfaction, harmony, happiness etc., all rolled into one.
