مُعلم محترفEste vs Isto
In Portuguese, what is the difference between "este" and "isto"? Ex. esta casa vs. ista casa

Both isto and este refer to this. However, isto refers to abstract things whereas este refers to concrete things.
Ex :
Este estudante é português
Isto é muito difícil.
* There's no word like ista .

I know just how you can get puzzled by that since both are translated into 'this' in English.
So, let's start with "Este", which is a demonstrative pronoun and precedes a male noun.
Eg.: Este homem é meu amigo.
Because it precedes a noun, it also varies according to it being singular or plural.
Eg.: Estes homens são meus amigos.
'Isto', in turn, doesn't work as a determiner as 'este' so it doesn't precede a noun in a sentence (the noun then is usually implied)
Eg.: Isto é um lápis
Because it doesn't precede a noun, it's invariable either.
I hope it was helpful! ;)

Este? Não você deveria de saber a diferença entre "isso", "isto" e "aquilo" para não dizer que deve de se usar "este".

Se uma coisa está na sua mão eu digo ESTE. Se uma coisa está na minha mão eu digo ISTO. E se uma coisa está na mão de alguém que não está na conversa eu digo AQUILO. :D
