A type of verb _ why "explain me" is wrong Could you help please. I know that " explain + object" is incorrect. For example " May I ask you explain me....... " is wrong. Why? I understand that it's about a type of verb but that's it. I just wonder what other verbs might be (= like " explain") and would like to know the rule, please. Thank you

Explain [to] (me) (the concept behind this theory) Explain (the concept behind this theory) [to] (me) Ex - Can you explain your swollen arms ? [ Remember the ( to ) ] explain to me listen to me talk to me

An example: "Explain this to me." THIS is being explained. It is the direct object. ME is to whom THIS is being explained. It is the indirect object. A lot of verbs follow use "to" to express this. But there are phrases like "answer me this" (which means "answer this for me").

Thank you Nanren and Ian de Vries. I didn't place any examples but it's clear now.

" Please explain the idea of global warming" or "Please explain the concept of global warming to me," means the same thing.
