For examble if I want to say "I was wondering why you are still awake" I learned the "~のか"- form for indirect questions. -->どうしてこの時にあなたがまだ目を覚ましているのか、知りませんでした。" And I learned the "~かな"- form for "I'm wondering.." --> どうしてこの時にあなたがまだ目を覚ましているかな。 But both sentences don't really express what I want to say, right? Hi, Sandra. "I was wondering why you are still awake" I would translate the sentence into "なぜ　あなたは　まだ　起きてる　のかな（と [私は] 思う）" If you want to say "I was wondering..." in Japanese, you can say "... のかな（と [私は] 思う）" In my opinion, this is one of the best expressions.

Hi Sandra! I wonder... is often translated as 「～かな、と思う」like other people have already explained. I would say 「どうして（あなたは）こんな時間に起きているのかな、と思いました。(or 思っていました either works）」
