Su.ki is correct from the perspective of human biology, however most English speakers are unaware of the distinction. Although this technical use of the word 'taste' is valid, the primary dictionary definition, and commonest usage, is as a synonym for 'flavour' as she defines it. From the perspective of language, both formal and informal, 'taste' nearly always means 'flavour'. The adjective 'tasty' always means 'flavoursome', i.e. rich in flavour, it never has the more restricted technical meaning. The verbs 'taste' and 'flavour' have different meanings: to taste food means to try a little to find out if it has a good taste (=flavour). To flavour food means to add ingredients (flavourings) which give it a particular taste (=flavour). When referring to food products which have been flavoured, such as ice cream or sweets, we might talk of strawberry or vanilla flavours as choices; note that we do not talk of strawberry or peach flavoured jam: the taste (=flavour) is a natural property of the fruit in the jam, not of any added flavourings. The noun 'taste' has yet another, different, meaning which is 'aesthetic sensibility': if I say somebody has good taste in clothes, it means they are good at choosing clothes which look good.
