mamız suffix Merhaba herkese! :) I know tanışmak means to meet.. But this Gülben Ergen's line is translated in past tense: We met by coincidence Bi tesadüftü tanışmamız.. I thought "we met" in Turkish translates to "tanıştık" Does this -mamız suffix mean another past tense maybe? Thank you so much in advance! :)

This is an inverse sentence. Subject: - Tanışmamız (Our meeting, our becoming acquainted ) - Tanışmak (to meet, to become acquainted) -Tanış (root of the verb) + {ma}/me (suffix which makes noun form from verb form, in English it is made by adding -ing to verb such as "to go" --> "going") + {mız} / miz / muz / müz (our, possesion) = Our meeting, our becoming acquainted Bi = Bir (a,an,one) (It is a street accent) Tesadüf = Coincidence -dı/di/du/dü = past tense suffix and after "f,s,t,k,ç,ş,h,p" letters "d" will be "t" Tesadüftü = It was coincidence Bi tesadüftü tanışmamız = Our meeting/becoming acquainted was a coincidence.

Hello Nazee Bi tesadüftü tanışmamız (In the songs, the sentences are often inverted, meaning the regular word order often changes) Tanışmamız bir tesadüftü. Our meeting (Us meeting) was a coincidence. Tanışmak: To Meet Tanışma: Meeting (Noun form of a verb) mız: possessive ending for pronoun biz/we Tanışma+mız literally means 'our meeting' which translates into 'us meeting'

I think it's part of a grammar point, not the end of the sentence. What's the next word...? ('We met' would be tanıştık) ...bence. :)
