"be famous for" vs "be known for"
Does "be famous for" used more often than "be known for" in spoken English, while the latter for written English? Thank you for the help.

Answer. So Roy can choose one?

It depends. "Famous" is a stronger word. My grandmother was well known for her cooking, but it would be awkward to say she was "famous" for it since it was more of a neighborhood thing. I wouldn't use "famous" - written or spoken - unless the person was recognized for something among a lot of people spread out around a large geographic area.
Either would be understood the same way though - it's just a question of which sounds more natural.

I use them both in spoken quite a bit.
