By this time next month I’ll have worked/ I’ll have been working one the house for over 2 years. By this time next month I’ll have worked/ I’ll have been working on the house for over 2 years. I hope I can finish it before I retire. We were doing some grammar exercises during class and this one confused me a bit. I went with I’ll have been working because the man in question wasn’t going to be done working on the house anytime soon as he had expressed his will slash complain to finish before he retired. My teacher said I’ll have worked was the correct answer. Why would it be so?

I disagree with your teacher. I would say "By this time next month, I'll have been working on the house for over 2 years."

I want to point out that it’s a very unnatural way to describe time in English. I’ve been working on the house for almost two years (now). I hope I can finish it before I retire.
