"Genre"
- is the most correct, you can find this in search engines and in details of files in a song. It refers to what we would otherwise call "styles" ie: Rap, Pop, Country, Hip Hop, Soul, etc etc.
"Style"
- means the same thing but is more colloquial
"Type"
- is more vague and more colloquial, it can encompass more meaning then "style"/"genre", with stuff ranging from the musician, the age of the song, the mood of the song etc...
"Kind" is just type but even more colloquial

KEIRA nailed it on the head. Personally I knew the answer but would have had a hard time articulating it. Good job Keira.

Generally speaking, 'genre' could be used in a more professional setting, but they're pretty much interchangeable. In a casual setting with friends, we would probably say "What type of music do you like?" or "What kind of music do you listen to?", but we might also say "What's your favourite type of music?"
