got me vs gave me
I've come across phrases like "it got me a lot of trouble" and "it got me me a lot of attention".
I found them bizarre yet quite native. As I understand, the difference between "it gave me a lot of trouble" and "it got me a lot of trouble" is that the former statement means whatever it is it gave me trouble directly, whereas the latter statement means whatever it is it didn't give me trouble directly but got some trouble elsewhere and then gave it to me. What do you think of such sentences? Do you find them natural?
