Hi Yusuke, this is a great question! Both are grammatically correct and make sense. To me, "3 years later" just sounds better in your sentence. Sorry that my answer couldn't be better!

I guess native speaker would like to say " 3 years later" .kinda like a habit.

I got married at the age of 25, after 3 years(3 years later), I got divorced.
