hi Steven,
"buttare" is "to throw" but I can add to Cherry's answer:
"buttare giù"(writing) = to jot down, scribble down
(food) = to gulp down
"buttarsi su qualcuno"= to launch oneself at somebody
ciaooo( ciao anche a Cherry =D )!

- "Buttarsi" as a reflexive verb means 'to jump':
*buttiamoci!
let's jump!,
or let's have a go! ( in the sense of 'rischiamo )
*buttarsi in acqua

Ciao! here's 2 more common options (from experience):
"Buttafuori": nightclub bouncers. Yes, it literally means "throwers-out"!
"Che butta?!": translates as "what's news", "what's happening", but best translates to English as "Whassup?!" (sorry I don't know the Chinese)
