台灣人用 番茄 一詞 西紅柿 在台灣是個罕用詞 大概只有餐廳主廚或美食家會用得上這個詞 說西紅柿會讓一般人""摸不著頭腦"" 在台灣閩南與客家方言裡頭 不用番茄 而用日語 トマト

well, in oral chinese, people around me don't really care if you say 番茄 or 西红柿，they are the same for us. but when you take an order in a restaurant you will mostly see 西红柿 on the menu, such as 西红柿炒鸡蛋， 西红柿鸡蛋汤, etc. hope this can help a little. ^^

i have been to many place of china，西红柿炒蛋is the most common appear on the menu the area beside the sea ,like GuangDong province, may call 番茄； especially，番茄酱do not called西红柿酱； and,in some place we call 洋柿子also.
