"great wealth and influece", what is the meaning of "influence" in this sentence.
"He had to consider all of this along with the the personal issues he encountered when he worked with men of great wealth and influence, because these were people whose support he depended on for his next book."

Hello Chi,
The word 'influence' could mean (among other meanings) by definition 'power resulting from wealth' .That is the precise sense in this context.
The kind of power resulting from wealth could be being well-connected,having rank , authority, control...etc

influence = 勢力
In the old days, the wealthy had far greater influence in politics and power. I think he means that kind of influence.

Influence comes with wealth. Rich people can influence others to do them favours thereby expecting them to do a favour for them in the near future. Think of rich people in your city and the power they have over others.
