Pronunciation of zero initials in Pinyin If zero initials follow a vowel sound, are they sounded/pronunced? For example, would 不一 be pronunced as ‘bù yī’ instead of ‘bù ī’’? I've been saying ‘bù ī’’ since I started learning Mandarin, and I think I've been making a mistake hehe

不一 is usually said "bú yì". You need to study the bit where 不 and 一 change their tone. Hmm, I think I mucked this up somewhere. 一 changes to yí, right?

When "i" and "u" form syllables by themselves without the consonant initial, they are written as "yi" and "wu" respectively. So the pinyin of "不一" should be written as‘bù yī’. The pronunciation of "bù yī" and "bù ī" are same.

I think "bù yī" and "bù ī" in pinyin are the same pronunciation but "bù ī" is wrong, we don't write like this. Except 韵母"a,ao,ai,ang,o,ou,e,ei", we need a 声母(b,p,m,f, etc.) before 韵母(i,u,v, etc.)
