" None of the" or "no" ? "Not of the food in the fridge was tasty." Can I use "no" instead of "none of the" in this sentence? Please explain why. Thanks. **Sorry - I typed "not of" instead of "NONE OF"

You must say NONE. If you were just responding to the question "Is there any food in the fridge?" You could just say no. But to respond fully, you would say, "No, there is not any food in the fridge or there is none" None is a kind of abbreviation for not any

But, strange it is that this kind of "not of the" still exists. Thus, evaluation of the learning process is not of the major importance here. These rules are not of the sort found in grammar books. The answer was not of the sort that Jack could hope to understand. Anyway, it is really important to me to receive some good advice, not of the kind, for example, to read a good manual. Notice, it was a question not of the program - only about tests for reading, the letter and phylosophy. Not of the kind you're implying. I'm not much of a cook.

i think yes you can none of the food in fridge was tasty. no food in the fridge was tasty. nothing was tasty in the fridge. some more examples none of the biscuits are left. no biscuits are left.
