We had fried dough sticks for lunch in our canteen today. It was a new dish. A Chinese teacher asked the staff member to give her a second helping.
I did the same. I asked her “do you also have it in your hometown for
breakfast?” She said yes. I asked “what do you call it?” She answered “youtiao”
and she asked me the same question. I said “guozi”. She said “what?” I repeated
“guozi. Like in ‘Jianbing guozi’”. My mother tries to buy it for me every
weekend, but I always try to refuse because I don’t want to be addicted to it. It’s not healthy and makes me miss my hometown too much.
But sometimes she still buys it anyway.
Hometown, what time is it?
