A commodity, to me, is something valuable that you acquire. Example sentences: "water is a precious commodity" "We need more flexibility in the system, as time with patients is a valuable commodity." "Experience, considered a priceless commodity in life, can also be a useful ally in football." Merchandise (uncountable) is something you might find at a music concert or amusement park, like a souvenir: "shops which offered an astonishing range of merchandise" "the official merchandise for the film" "I didn't feel the previous merchandise really reflected the character of the club."
