I help English learners *see* and *feel* the language through photography, art, and music—tools I’ve used for years as a writer and visual artist. Whether dissecting a photo’s story or strumming my ukulele to teach rhythm in speech, I make lessons memorable. My students gain confidence by learning in creative, low-pressure ways. Based in Toronto, I share my home studio with a beagle who occasionally photobombs lessons!عني كمعلّم
My interest in people’s backgrounds translates into compassion and an interest in my student’s backgrounds. When I meet a student for the first time, I assess their level of English and then tailor lessons to a slightly higher level to engage the most learning. I am clear, concise, friendly, and patient. When I correct a student’s mistakes, I do not make them feel pressure or stress during the lesson. I will clarify and repeat back what they said, but in a correct manner so they can learn. I also add humor to the mix. A shared laugh is an icebreaker and helps students relax and learn.
I incorporate photographs and music in my lessons. Visual art is a universal language and students can learn everything from vocabulary to grammar by talking about photographs.
