Shie Sensei

Shie Sensei has been a fantastic teacher so far! I tried a few different iTalki teachers via the trial system and ended up choosing Shie Sensei for a few reasons. She's extremely personable and knowledgeable, and seemed to really consider my goals and objectives when discussing how to best learn Japanese, rather than defaulting to how Genki or other textbooks approach things. I really appreciate her flexibility and personalization in handling my lessons!

Amazing teacher! I appreciated the way she assigned homework before our lesson so that could determine my level and create a lesson plan. It was a fun and engsging session. It is strange hearing a recording of our own voice but it's even more unique to hear our voice speaking a language we are learning! It helped me realize the areas where I need to improvd. As an ESL instructor, I also appreciated her friendly and structured approach to helping me discover my mistakes. After discussing my goals, she clearly emphasized her methods and teaching philosophy to help me create a map for reaching my goals. If you are serious about learning Japanese, you will not regret choosing Shie sensei.

I had my first session with Shie sansei yesterday. I have troubles in conversation and she was able to spot where my problems were and attempted to guide me to the right direction. With 20+ years of teaching experience, I believe she is able to help me on this. I am looking forward to future classes with Shie sansei and hopefully I will be able to listen to and speak Japanese with confidence in the not-too-distant future.

My first two lessons with Shie sensei were impressive. Shie sensei is comprehensive in language teaching, she introduced the synergy between brain and learning which recalled my faded memories in linguistics & neuroscience learnt at university. Part of my work is to optimise the English curriculum in textbooks and I found that Shie sensei got various teaching resources too, e.g. a YouTube channel @JustAnOniSensei, audio & writing exercises etc. which are well organised to help throughout the learning process. I look forward to be guided by Shie sensei and explore different ways to improve my Japanese in the near future : )

Shie Sensei is an excellent teacher. Her approach for me focuses on the importance of learning grammar first so that I can start formulating my own sentences as I continue learn vocabulary. This approach is very good for me. She has many years of experience teaching under her belt. I would highly recommend her for learning Japanese!

I’ve been continuing my classes with Shie-sensei, and it has been a good experience. She carefully selects challenging materials to help hone my listening skills, which has significantly improved my comprehension. During lessons, she encourages me to use Japanese as much as possible. Even though I’m slow, she is patient and always finds ways to guide and encourage (often push!) me to speak more. Her teaching style has been effective, and I’m grateful for her support.
