My name is Rakeb Debalkew. I am a 32 years old Ethiopian language enthusiast. I was born and raised here in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. Amharic is my first language and my Native. I was raised in a democratic and free family that let me reflect my own color and identity. I see my parents and siblings in me, and they are the shiniest part of my identity. If any one asks me to answer the question "Who are you?" beyond my name, I would say that I am my family. I am all the wonderful teachers I had, all the friends I embarked on. I am confident, I am courageous, I am enthusiastic and I am bold and forward. There is not a single thing I regret and I love that about myself. I truly value what I have!عني كمعلّم
I was raised in a family of teachers, both my Father and Mother were teachers. Some say that teaching is in my blood. On the first two to three years of my life after graduating from university, the first profession I have embarked on was teaching Spoken English. I remember my first class, it should have been terrifying but genuinely speaking my first class seemed like my hundredth. I stepped in a took control of the class room that is filled with students that were twice my age. I think nothing can better explain what I am like as a teacher than this first class story. I believe that God has given me a golden talent on the are of teaching. It is my true ambition, it is what I am!دروسي وأسلوب تدريسي
I intend on making my Amharic lessons as interactive as possible. But the beginning shall be a bit strict and focused so that my students are in line with the major grammatical rules of Amharic. Once the basics are captured, then every singly class shall start with a power point lesson of something major grammatically, then a listening exercise of the lesson of the day, a speaking exercise of the lesson of the day. I would give out the "Words of the day" and "Expression of the days" where I will provide five words and expressions each day for my students. I took the lead on improving the interactive nature of the classrooms, setting lesson plans, preparing monthly events and the preparation and distribution of monthly newsletter with in the center. I especially worked with students that travel for business to other parts of the world and students that are up for interviews and upgrades at Ethiopian Aviation Academy.

I have been in several projects with Instructors from all over the world expanding my understanding of international communication. I have been multi disciplinarily serving different aspects of the university and also had the pleasure of co-hosting a radio program. It was once again another amazing journey of my life.

Rakeb taught me the most commonly used prepositions and we started to make sentences and describe pictures. It was a really helpful lesson once again :-)

Rakeb taught me the greetings for different times of the day. We had a really good time talking about the origins of some of the expressions.
