Maura Tisoy

I've taken over 30 classes with Maura so far and I'm super pleased with my progress and her guidance. She is excellent at correcting my grammar without interrupting the flow of conversation by repeating/mirroring back what I said, and she's good at guessing/understanding what I'm expressing. Talking to her also feels like talking to a friend. She's often hilarious and has a great sense of humor and has a thoughtful and empathetic perspective on just about everything we talk about, so it's very easy to have conversations with her in Spanish! El tiempo con ella pasó muy rapido - nos compartimos historias de problemas que están pasando en nuestros países con la extracción de recursos naturales y el medioambiente. A pesar de que tenía sueño y estaba muyyy cansada ella fue paciente con mis millones de errores gramaticales y me dejó tiempo a buscar palabras a expresarme sin presión :) me gustó mucho a conocer un poco más de ella, y aprendí un poco de su cultura, de colombia, y me dio recomendaciones de novelas que debería leer. I look forward to having another class with her! :)

Maura es un tutor muy amable y interesante. Disfruté mi clase con ella.

Today, Maura did something that I thought was really awesome. instead of just reviewing trabalanguas, she timed me as I ran through the exercises. so, Not only was I striving to get a better time, but I was also recognizing how much I needed to practice my pronunciation and fluency. It was really cool. She also is very good at setting up opportunities to learn dialogue in daily situations and role-playing in these opportunities.

i appreciated that Maura came to my lesson prepared to teach me phrases about which I was curious, and I learned even more. We were supposed to cover three themes, and we got through one in my hour-long lesson. So, we have enough material for two future lessons now.

I have taken two lessons with Maura and have enjoyed both immensely. She seems very focused on listening, taking notes during our sessions, with pencil even. After our first session, I was impressed with how she summarized our session and identified content/themes for future classes. She wants to do well by the student.
