Hello! I'm a native Spanish speaker born and raised in Mexico!
I grew up in the Mexican Caribbean so I also learned English as a child and speak it fluently.
I've travelled a lot around the world so I'm comfortable with lots of accents and also know expressions in other Spanish / English dialects.
* I do not teach children yet, sorry! :(

Crecí en el Caribe mexicano así que también aprendí Inglés desde niña y lo hablo de forma fluida.
He viajado mucho alrededor del mundo, así que me siento muy cómoda con muchos tipos de acentos y también conozco expresiones en diferentes dialectos del español / inglés.عني كمعلّم
I'm a language tutor that will help you out by talking as natives do in real life :)
As a student from italki too, I realized the best way to learn a language is by talking,
because let's be honest, sometimes language books teach us phrases that are extremely formal or things that no one actually says!
Practice makes perfect :)

Como estudiante de italki también, me di cuenta que la mejor forma de aprender un idioma es hablando,
porque seamos honestos, a veces los libros de idiomas nos enseñan frases extremadamente formales, ¡que en realidad nadie dice!

We will have conversations as people in real life,
I will offer corrections and an overview of mexican culture and history if you wish, but most of all we will have you talking so you can forget about translating in your mind... and start thinking in Spanish or English! :)
Hablaremos como las personas lo hacen en la vida real, te daré correcciones y un poco de información de la cultura mexicana si gustas, pero más que nada estarás conversando para dejar de traducir en tu mente...

Selene is so intuitive! She assesses where you are in your new language and knows what you need so quickly and teaches it so effectively! And she’s always so upbeat and positive! She also teaches you the pragmatic speech tricks of the native culture. I love her lessons!

Selene is one of the best teachers on italki without question. I don’t usually write reviews, but I feel inclined to as I have enjoyed our sessions a lot from week to week. She makes corrections at the right times, is very knowledgeable about US/Mexican culture, and always keeps the conversation interesting. I am glad she has been a part of my Spanish speaking journey and I can’t recommend her enough.
