Just finished my first lesson with Sota-san. He made sure to get a detailed outline for what I'd like to learn so that he can prepare for future lessons with it. He's very easy to speak to and was patient every time I had to pause to think about what or how to say something. If you want to use Genki or Minna no Nihongo it's obvious he knows them well as he could reference specific things in them. He also suggested breaking the class into pieces so we could do like 20 minutes of free talk each lesson as practice, but can learn whatever I want to learn with the other 40 minutes. I never felt like he was pressuring me to go one direction or the other. I was completely free to control the conversation so I could keep it on topics where I'm comfortable. This was my first lesson, but it won't be my last. He encouraged me throughout the lesson to ask as many questions as I needed. He's a new teacher to iTalki, but he isn't a new teacher. Book his trial. You won't regret it. :-)
