Power exists within every political framework; it is just that some systems possess a stronger inclination toward the separation of powers. Yet, is such an inclination inherently permanent? When leaders in democratic nations begin to suppress freedom of speech, openly vilify political rivals, and shift all blame onto their opponents, is it possible that, in the long run, the "arc of history" might shift its trajectory, leading these nations away from the democracy they once knew?
