Hi, I am Ms. O and I enjoy learning languages and linguistics. I love breaking down languages and seeing how they are structurally formed and how they compare to other languages. I am fluent in English and American Sign Language. Other languages that I study in my free time are Spanish and Japanese. Although I am not yet fluent in them, I enjoy the process of learning, making new discoveries and putting together the puzzle pieces to advance my practice in making my own sentences and navigating conversation. It’s a challenge, but yet so exciting to see how far you’ve come! I also enjoy getting out into nature, traveling, meeting new people and exploring new cultures.عني كمعلّم
I graduated a four year program with a B.S. in American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting. I’ve tutored ASL for about 2 years at university. It’s important for me to first get to know the expectations and goals of my students. This allows me to set up a tutoring session that is most compatible with my students leaning style and goals. I’ve taught many of my friends, colleagues and a few of my younger cousins conversational ASL. It is truly a passion of mine to help people on their language learning journey and to guide them pass the same challenges I’ve had. It’s one of the most fulfilling things I find myself doing. Within my lessons I offer in depth exposure to grammar; topic comment, types of classifiers, double referencing etc. Exposure to vocabulary; basic to advanced, regional signs, fingerspelling, handshape etc. And exposure to conversation; dialogue skits for practice and free range dialogue/conversation practice. I am open to using many methods of learning. I have a lot to offer, especially for beginners. Some include vocabulary repetition, vocab mnemonics to help retain signs, analyzing basic to advanced sentences while being exposed to new signs and so much more. I am also open to using learning methods students may suggest for themselves. There are no prerequisites as I teach beginners.موادي الخاصة بالتدريس

First lesson with Brittley was great! She is very nice, and came prepared. She makes learning easy. I am a very visual person, and her teaching style really fit my needs. She explains things, gives examples, and has you signing from Day 1. Can't wait for my next lesson. Highly recommend!!

Lessons are always fun and challenging. Brittley incorporates a good amount of review, new material, and how to use what I am learning into conversation.

Wow. I was super impressed by Brittley. We started signing right away and having a normal conversation. She didn't voice at all. When I didn't understand a sign, she fingerspelled it slowly for me, and in some cases even used a whiteboard. Her internet connection is really fast and her camera is positioned in such a way that no matter what she signs, everything is captured. I recommend her for students who can hold a basic conversation and want a real "immersion" experience. Great practice for signing in the real world!

Taking up lessons with Brittley is just like talking to a friend. It’s always a treat to be able to talk to her. I appreciate that she’s not afraid to tell you when you’re wrong but NEVER in a critical or judgmental way. She’s very encouraging and patient. I can tell she loves what she does! It seems she actually takes the time to engage with her students and helps to make them feel comfortable. As long as she keeps teaching on Italki, I’ll keep coming back!
