Hi there, my name is Yen. I am a CELTA-certified English teacher and also have a certificate in teaching Mandarin Chinese as a second language. I taught English at a couple of language schools in Montreal, Canada and also worked as an IELTS invigilator there. Before that, I had worked in different countries including the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan. If you are learning a language in order to be able to work or study abroad, you have found the right person to prepare you for the journey :) 2019 update: Teaching Mandarin Chinese at Lungwha University of Science and Technology as a lecturer, also giving IELTS prep lessons at language schools in Taipei, Taiwan.

My students are from every walk of life from all corners of the globe, such as Brazil, Korea, and France. We don't just study a language in class; we exchange our cultures and learn from each other's perspectives in the meantime. We learn a language to become a global citizen and shape a deeper understanding of the world!

I provide a wide variety of English lessons that can suit your needs. Whether it’s life conversation, for business use, or for IELTS preparation, I have plenty of materials and my own insights to share with you. As for Mandarin Chinese teaching, I am a university lecturer in Taipei, Taiwan. I believe learning with me can help you get ready for studying or working in a Chinese speaking country. My teaching is effective because I understand second language learners' pain points and mistakes that non-natives are prone to make. Yen is an awesome Chinese teacher! Although she offers “informal tutoring”, her classes are in fact professional and well prepared. She’s patient and good at getting even low-level students talking the target language for the whole lesson. Being from Taiwan, her pronunciation is standard as well as beautiful, and she can help with both simplified and traditional characters. If only she weren’t so busy teaching English (luckily she avoids English in Chinese lessons), I’d be able to book even more lessons with her! Today’s lesson included sports talk as well as a realistic role play about scheduling business meetings.
