Hi! I’m Pinja, born and raised in Finland. My interest in language teaching began while working with immigrants, and in 2015, I started teaching Finnish at a refugee center. Since then, I’ve earned a certificate in language teaching and gained experience both in traditional classroom settings and through private lessons.
I find it incredibly rewarding to support my students as they reach their goals and become more integrated into society.
For me, learning languages is a gateway to new and exciting cultures. I love chatting with locals, discovering hidden restaurants, and hiking off the beaten path.عني كمعلّم
I have a degree in Social Science and I’m a certified teacher. I’ve worked with private students, schools, and companies, and I’ve also written language books for Finnish learners.
I specialize in helping students not only learn the language but also settle into life in Finland. My lessons focus on practical, everyday communication, including colloquial Finnish. I also introduce students to Finnish culture, customs, and daily life to help them feel more at home. I personalize lessons for each student according to their needs and interests.

I would like to support you to meet your individual learning goals; whether you aim to learn grammar, specific vocabulary, conversational skills etc. The aim of the first lesson is to evaluate your level and to set up learning goals. We will talk about the different ways of learning (visual, auditory, reading/writing and kinesthetic) and make a plan according to your learning style and preferences. I believe that using different engaging activities keep students interested, motivated and support their learning. During the lessons we can use different materials: books, exercises, articles, listening and conversational, games, music and videos. I have made a lot of authentic materials.موادي الخاصة بالتدريس

I was preparing for the highest level of the YKI test (C1) and Pinja guided me through this process beautifully. She is very friendly and encouraging and tries to boost your confidence at all times (sometimes I suspected she might be praising my performance a little too much but that might also by my imposter syndrome speaking :-D). She is very flexible and if you know what you want and where you want to go with your language learning journey, she will do her best to get you there with different exercises. We discussed all kinds of serious issues of our times such as politics and climate change (all in the target language Finnish, of course!) but we also laughed a lot, and I truly had an amazing time. Had another amazing lesson with Pinja. We reviewed some alternating KPT stems for verbs and read through some passages before moving onto cases.
Pinja is a really flexible teacher and is always happy to explain concepts which have indirectly cropped up.
I would really recommend Pinja as a teacher for anyone beginning their journey in Finnish.

I had another brilliant lesson with Pinja, working on question words and the different form of question words depending on the context for each conjugation.

Pinja is so supportive! Thanks to our lessons and her supportive attitude, I have significantly improved my conversational skills in Finnish. The change is really noticeable - before I couldn’t say a word in Finnish even though I knew some grammar and vocabulary, but now I can already handle different types of conversations! And now it feels great and fun to learn Finnish as never before because I can engage more in longer conversations with native speakers. Thank you, Pinja!

Pinja is a brilliant teacher in explaining concepts of grammar, and always happy to adjust her lesson plans in response to questions which I have in relation to grammatical concepts, as I find that I learn a language better by learning the grammatical concepts and then applying them to vocabular, especially for languages which require conjugation.
Would definitely highly recommend Pinja if you're looking to learn Finnish.
