Hi! I’m Melissa, a **TEFL & IELTS-certified** English teacher from Cape Town, South Africa. With years of experience **specializing in kids and teens**, I love making learning fun and engaging! My travels to Mauritius, Vietnam, Singapore, and Turkey have given me a deep appreciation for diverse cultures—perfect for lively conversations about history, movies, or global topics. When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me outdoors, reading, or exploring new ways to inspire young learners. Let’s turn English into an adventure together!

عني كمعلّم

I have many years’ experience working with children of different ages in different capacities. For 3 years I taught children between 3-6 of different backgrounds and levels of English understanding. I had just over a year experience teaching teenagers between 12-18 doing many different activities and lessons. I also coached 15/16-year olds netball. I have au paired for a family and their main reason for employing me was to teach the children English, I used a variety of different activities to help the children improve their English skills. I use many different resources and I enjoy customizing my lesson plans for each student.

My lessons are age dependant and I can customise them according to the needs of each individual that I teach. I expect my students to be hard working and willing to practice their English whenever possible. I will provide assignments to complete after the lesson to help keep what we studied fresh in my students mind and help them apply their new knowledge in their day to day life. I am a very friendly and easy going, upbeat person and I do my best to make each lesson as fun and positive as possible for all of my students. I am TEFL qualified and I have a great knowledge of the English language and all difficulties it can bring, but I aim to make it as easy as possible for all to learn.

Au PairAu Pair SA - Cape Town, جنوب أفريقياOne of the main reasons I was hired by the family to be the au pair for their children was to help them learn and improve their English as it was not their native language. This experience will help me on italki as I had one on one and teaching with each of the three children every single day. I would help them with homework as well as prepare my own materials to ensure the children were having fun while learning new and exciting things in the English language.

I have taught people of all ages and all backgrounds with varying levels of English. Although in this capacity my role was not to teach English but to teach lessons in English it has given me great experiences and helped me to grow as a teacher and develop my own teaching style that I feel has already helped me so much on italki as a community tutor. I have taught lessons every single week, sometimes more than once a week.

It was very cool and funny lesson! We were laughing all the time)) My girls always say that you are their friend, they wait for these talkings. Even my younger daughter (she's 2.5) trying to tell stories in English. But first I thought that she is so little)) And I see that English of my oldest daughter is improving) she is trying to speak more and more, because she likes you so much and she wants to tell you everything)
