Subtitled Intro Video https://youtu.be/FEbzui8-GEM Hi, I'm Stuart & I hold a B.S. in Environmental Management from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. During my 5 years there, I acquired project management, team leadership & sport coaching skills. These came from directing my university triathlon club's championship, which hosted 400+ athletes annually, & later administering a training plan for 120+ club members as the student head coach. In my final year of study, I dedicated myself to planning, executing, & writing a 141-page thesis on beavers in an important California watershed. From these & other experiences, I developed appreciation for & skills in pedagogy.عني كمعلّم

My above experiences have made me a believer in this standard, shaping my "coaching" approach to language teaching. In this approach, I will let you lead us as much as possible. I will hold high expectations & give you important responsibilities from the start, but provide enough structure & help to make your learning manageable & fun.

For all new students, I'll evaluate your English history & listen to what you’ve liked/disliked about previous lessons or professors during the first lesson. Together, we'll establish or refine initial SMART goals for your success. We'll use Google Sheets or other methods to adjust your language-learning routines, track progress, & stay motivated.
While I'm not certified for IELTS/TOEFL test prep, I do offer classes where I'll develop personalized lesson plans following a more intensive learning plan "road map" which we will collaborate on and adjust regularly.

ESL Tutor and Language Exchange Partner• Tutored 1 Moroccan, and currently tutoring 1 Egyptian student (aged 27 and 23, respectively), both who I met via iTalki language exchange
• Performed needs analyses to establish initial goals
• Created presentation, practice, production lesson plan outlines for select sessions as part of 20 hour practicum requirement for TEFL certification
• Conducted these and current tutoring in English pronunciation, grammar, and conversation with Skype and Zoom video and WhatsApp/Facebook Messenger chats

After-School Program Assistant• Worked with the director and 7 other assistants to implement a learning enrichment program for 40+ students of 7-12 years old
• Planned Spanish, science, life-skills activities once per week for primary school students
• Performed cabin-leader duties for school’s week-long middle-school camping retreat for 10 students
• Learned basic pedagogical skills for interacting with and teaching child learners (ages 6-14), should it become necessary to teach this age range

Student Head Triathlon Coach• Collaborated with 14 student coaches and 1 professional coach to implement a training program for 120+ members
